Summary
Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has publicly warned Nigerians to disregard a false statement circulating on social media under her name. She clarified that the message criticising Nigerian leaders over domestic security was fabricated, adding that the perpetrators could not even spell her name correctly.Â
Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), has issued a public warning to disregard a false statement circulating on social media relating to Donald Trump.
This comes after the President of the United States, Donald Trump, declared Nigeria a country of particular concern.
He also threatened military intervention if the Nigerian government failed to act on the alleged Christian genocide.
Drawing upon Donald’s words, a false statement began circulating online, falsely attributed to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
The false story being circulated was a statement attacking Nigerian leaders’ approach to domestic security and governance. Titled “Trump didn’t ‘hit’ us — our leaders did,”
The false story attributed to Dr Ngozi reads, “This isn’t about foreign insults. It’s about failure at home. When leaders spend more time negotiating with bandits and turning killers into talking-head celebrities than putting them behind bars, you know the plan is broken — or there is no plan at all.”
In a statement issued on her X Page on November 8, 2025, she stated that the entire story is false.
“Whichever coward did this should write the message in their own name and not hide behind mine or anyone else’s!! Scammers and 419 ers stop!”
The quote, which discusses national leadership and international insults, has been spreading across social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.
She further issued a clear warning to the perpetrators, stating that she would take action.
