In a tweet, Dr Oby Ezekwesili praised the senator’s unwavering stance against injustice and commended her for modelling the strength citizens must possess to challenge abuse of power.
Former Minister of Education and public policy advocate Dr Oby Ezekwesili has extended heartfelt congratulations to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan following the court’s reinstatement order as the duly elected senator representing Kogi Central.
This development comes after the Federal High Court in Abuja declared the Nigerian Senate’s six-month suspension of her excessive, unconstitutional, null, and void. In a tweet posted on her official handle, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili praised Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for modelling the strength of will that citizens in a democracy must possess to push back against abuse of power by those who occupy public positions.
Recall that Senator Natasha was suspended by the Nigerian Senate on March 6, 2025, for what the Senate described as gross misconduct. The allegations included her refusal to sit in her assigned seat during plenary, making disruptive remarks, and failing to appear before the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.
The suspension came shortly after she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment. However, the Senate clarified that her suspension was not related to those allegations. On July 3, 2025, Nigeria’s Supreme Court nullified the suspension, calling it unconstitutional and paving the way for her return to the Senate.
With this judgment, Senator Natasha officially won the case against the Senate.
“Distinguished. Senator. Natasha. Akpoti-Uduaghan. Congratulations!” Dr Oby Ezekwesili wrote, expressing the senator’s powerful words: “This injustice will not be sustained.”
Dr Oby described the senator as a model of democratic courage, commending her for resisting the abuse of power by those in public positions. She also praised the people of Kogi Central, who she said had been unconscionably and unconstitutionally denied representation, calling on the Nigerian Senate to correct the injustice urgently.
“You inspire!” She concluded, applauding the senator’s victory and the steadfast loyalty of her constituents.
