Dr. Olugbemisola Odusote Becomes First Female DG of Nigerian Law School

Summary: Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote, the current Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School has been appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the next Director-General of the Nigerian Law School. 

Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote, the current Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School has been appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the next Director-General of the Nigerian Law School. Her appointment will take effect from January 10, 2026, serving a four-year term. 

According to the official statement issued by Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy on Tuesday, January 6, 2025, Dr. Titilayo will be the first woman to lead the Nigerian law institution since its establishment in 1962. She will oversee the institution’s academic leadership, administrative management, and serve as the liaison between the school, Body of Benchers, Council of Legal Education, and the Nigerian Bar Association.

“As Director-General, Odusote will be responsible for the institution’s overall academic leadership, administrative management, and strategic direction across all campuses.

“She will also serve as the primary liaison between the school, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association,” part of the statement reads.

Dr. Olugbemisola is a law graduate from Obafemi Awolowo University, she obtained her LL.M. from the same university. She was called to the Bar in 1988 and specialises in company and commercial law. In 2001, she joined the law school as a lecturer, and has served in different positions, including the head of the academic department, director of academics, and head of campus.  She has her  PhD in Law from the University of Surrey, in the United Kingdom, with research interests in Public Law and the administration of justice.
