Summary
The Lagos DSVA engaged twelve CDAs in Ijede LCDA to enhance grassroots response to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), emphasising prevention, community involvement, and the agency’s toll-free helpline.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) organised an engagement programme with twelve (12) Community Development Associations (CDAs) under the Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA). The participating CDAs included Elemu/School, Ifesowapo Model, Temidire, Idera, First Power Line, Okeletu Central, Eleku, Pacesetter, Edutech, Mercy Land, Success, and Reformer.
The session focused on enhancing community-based prevention and response to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). CDA leaders, who often serve as first responders at the grassroots level, were sensitised on best practices for handling SGBV cases and their role in fostering a safer environment.
The interactive sessions allowed participants to seek clarification on SGBV-related issues. At the end of the program, the leaders pledged their commitment to supporting efforts to reduce SGBV in their communities.
The DSVA also emphasised the importance of the agency’s toll-free helpline, 08000-333-333, as a vital reporting channel for SGBV incidents.
The Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Mrs. Kehinde Fesomu, commended the Lagos State Government for its proactive approach in combating SGBV and reaffirmed the community’s dedication to the cause.
