Summary
The Federal Government has approved the allocation of N1.8 billion for the Chibok girls intervention programme. The funding will cover their tuition, accommodation, vocational training, psychosocial and other support until 2027.
In commitment to supporting and helping the rescued Chibok girls build their lives again, the Federal Government has approved the allocation of N1, 854, 277, 768 funding for the Chibok girls intervention programme.
The Chibok girls were abducted by Boko Haram on April 14, 2014. A total of 276 girls were kidnapped from the Government Girls Secondary School, Borno State. While the majority of the girls have been rescued, 87 of them are believed to be in captivity after 11 years.
This fund will cover their tuition, accommodation, vocational training, medical care, psychosocial, and other related services for the girls. The fund is projected to last through 2027.
This development was disclosed in a press statement made on Thursday, September 4, 2025, announced by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folashade.
In partnership with the Ministry of Women Affairs, the Federal government will ensure that the girls receive comprehensive rehabilitation and academic support. Currently, 68 of the girls are enrolled in former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar‘s institution, the American University of Nigeria, Yola. Others are receiving specialised support care.
The Ministry urged the people to support the initiative, stressing that the girls’ welfare is a national priority.
