The federal government has rewarded 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullahi Aminu with N200,000 for her outstanding performance at the TeenEagle Global competition. Nafisa is recognised for her feat as the best in the world in the English competition.
Nafisa Abdullahi Aminu, the 17-year-old winner of the TeenEagle Global competition, has been awarded N200,000 by the Federal government in recognition of her outstanding performance.
Nafisa is among the trio who made Nigeria proud on the global stage. She defeated over 20,000 students from 69 countries, including English-speaking nations, to emerge as the world’s best in English at the global competition.
During the ceremony held in Abuja on Thursday, August 27, 2025. The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suiwaba Ahmad, presented the ₦200,000 cash prize and praised Nafisah’s resilience and intellect.
“You are the future of Nigeria, and you have made us proud. Your success gives us the confidence to ask for more,” Dr. Tunji said.
Expressing her gratitude, Nafisah thanked her parents, school, ministers, and President Bola Tinubu. She noted that her success comes from competence.
However, Nigerians perceive this recognition as insufficient compared to the money footballers and singers receive. Many have taken to social media to express their displeasure.
Below are their reactions,
“It’s disgraceful that FG reduced the honour of celebrating Nafisat, a brilliant Northerner who won the Teen Eagle Global Finals, to just ₦200k. She made Nigeria proud on the global stage, yet was mocked with a token. Nigeria must learn to value brains over waste,” @SarkiAbdulwahab tweeted.
“The whole federal government is awarding this intellectual protégé just a token amount of 200k Naira, an amount they would never even give to their children for feeding for two weeks. A nation that refuses to honour and value talents is bound to stagnate for decades, because talent drives innovations and innovation drives development,”@GububohT commented.
