Summary

One year after the brutal murder of 300-level FUNAAB student Christiana Idowu, her friends and family are crying out for justice. They lament that the case against her killer, Ayomide Adeleye, remains stalled with no updates on the matter.

Friends and family of Christiana Idowu, a 300-level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), have cried out for justice. They lament that one year after her brutal murder, the case against her killer, 23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye, appears stalled and forgotten.

Naija Feminists Media reported in August 2024 that Christiana was abducted by Ayomide Adeleye while travelling from her home in Itaoluwo, Ikorodu, to the University of Lagos, Yaba, where she was observing her industrial training.

The Lagos State Police Command later confirmed that Ayomide Adeleye, a philosophy student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, was handed over by the Nigerian Army after confessing to killing Christiana under the pretext of helping her fix her phone.

In a video circulating online on September 28, Christiana’s father, Idowu Oluwafemi, voiced his frustration over the lack of progress in the case.

“Hello Nigerians, I’m Mr. Idowu Oluwafemi, the father of Christiana Idowu, who was murdered by a friend. It’s getting to a year now and the boy was arrested in the police custody. I’ve not heard anything concerning the case,” he said.

Describing his daughter as a brilliant student, he pleaded for public support.

“Please, I’m helpless, I’m in the dark, and I want you Nigerians to come to my aid and help me. I don’t know whether the guy has been released at the moment. Please, help me, kindly help me..”

Reacting to the video, the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, clarified that he remained in custody. Despite this, Christiana’s family and friends remain fearful and have urged Nigerians not to let her memory be forgotten.
