Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Ini Edo, Others Pay Tribute to Late Olu Jacobs

Nollywood actresses including Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Ini Edo, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, and Kemi Lala Akindoju joined fans to pay tribute to industry colleague Olu Jacobs, who died at age 84.

Olu Jacobs’ death was announced by his son, Olusoji Jacobs, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, who described him as “The Lion of Lufodo.”

Following the announcement, Funke Akindele, in a tribute shared on X, described Olu Jacobs as a true legend and a kind, gracious man who supported, encouraged, and uplifted young talents.

She said his contribution to the Nigerian film industry would not be forgotten and extended her condolences to his spouse, veteran actress Joke Silva, their children, the Jacobs family and the Nigerian film industry.

“May God grant Uncle Olu eternal rest,” Funke Akindele wrote, while praying for good health and long life for people in the creative industry.

Kate Henshaw also mourned Jacobs, describing him as a great one, and praying for comfort for Silva, their children and the rest of the family. Ini Edo also paid tribute to the late actor with a social media post that reads, “Rest well, Uncle! You will forever be in our hearts.”

Meanwhile, Mercy Johnson-Okojie reflected on her experience working with Olu Jacobs, recalling moments on movie sets filled with laughter, joy and plenty of corrections. She said those memories would remain special to her.

Kemi Lala Akindoju also shared a personal tribute, describing Jacobs as “a true legend” and “the actual G.O.A.T.” She remembered him as Uncle Olu, a father figure, teacher and mentor who supported and encouraged younger people in the industry. Kemi Lala said it was a privilege to have known Jacobs personally and to have experienced his talent, wisdom, kindness and humour up close.

Olu Jacobs, who trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, built a career spanning theatre, television and film in Nigeria and internationally. He became one of the most recognisable figures in Nigerian cinema, known for his commanding screen presence and distinctive voice.

He also co-founded the Lufodo Group and Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts with Joke Silva.
