Globally celebrated actress, visionary filmmaker, and humanitarian Funke Akindele has been appointed as the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) Goodwill Ambassador and Advocate for HIV in Nigeria. The announcement was made by the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) at the World AIDS Day main event held at NAF Conference Centre in Abuja on Dec. 3, 2024.
An award-winning actress, producer, and businesswoman, Funke Akindele is renowned for her groundbreaking contributions to the entertainment industry and her impactful humanitarian work. With this appointment, she joins a global mission to end HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
In her acceptance statement, Funke Akindele expressed heartfelt gratitude for the honor, saying, “I am truly honored to be given this opportunity to be the UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador! I believe that together we can win the fight against HIV/AIDS in Nigeria by 2030 and in the world at large.”
Her new role will involve raising awareness about HIV prevention, treatment, and stigma reduction, empowering individuals and communities to take action against the epidemic.
