Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, hosted a delegation of Members of Parliament (MPs) at the Jubilee House on June 27, 2025. The symbolic and strategic meeting focused on deepening gender inclusion and amplifying women’s leadership in governance.
Describing the meeting as “empowering and timely,” the MPs commended the Vice President’s trailblazing role as the country’s first female Vice President and praised the renewed atmosphere of inclusive and purposeful governance under President John Mahama’s administration.
A key issue discussed at the meeting was the Affirmative Action Bill, which the MPs urged should be expedited. They emphasised the bill’s importance in strengthening women’s representation in political and decision-making positions.
“We need to reach out to other aspiring women, offering mentorship and encouragement to help them rise,” Vice President Naana Jane said in a post on X.
She stressed the importance of mentorship and collective advocacy, calling on the lawmakers to support younger women striving to enter leadership spaces.
Vice President Naana also highlighted the need for broader collaboration among government institutions, civil society, and the private sector to ensure lasting impact in the administration’s gender equity agenda.
The MPs, in turn, expressed their appreciation for the Vice President’s leadership and reaffirmed their solidarity in the fight for gender justice. They called for institutional reforms and the effective enforcement of the Affirmative Action Law, which they said would help dismantle long-standing barriers to women’s participation in governance.
