In commemoration of the 2026 International Women’s Day, on March 8, 2026, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, congratulates the global women’s community. She acknowledged their strength, achievements, and tenacity.
International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day dedicated to celebrating women’s achievements, progress, advocating for women’s rights, and acknowledging their challenges. It is annually celebrated on March 8th, with a theme for each celebration.
The 2026 theme for IWD is “Give To Gain.” It focuses on how supporting women can create opportunities and benefits for everyone. It’s centred on giving respect, visibility, knowledge, funding, justice, and opportunities to empower women and drive gender equality.
The United Nations’ official theme for International Women’s Day 2026 is “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.”
Commenting on the global day, Senator Oluremi stated that to empower women is an investment in a collective future, not charity. She further urged the global community to provide women with access to healthcare, education, and leadership opportunities.
“This year’s theme reminds us that empowering women is not an act of charity; it is an investment in our collective future. When we give women access to education, healthcare, economic empowerment, leadership platforms, justice and equity, we gain stronger families, more prosperous communities, and a more inclusive nation,” she said.
