Justice Served as Osinachi’s Husband, Peter Nwachukwu, Sentenced to Death

Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of Osinachi, the gospel singer, was sentenced to death by hanging for the latter's death.

Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of Osinachi Nwachukwu, a renowned gospel singer, has been sentenced to death by hanging on Monday, April 28th, 2025. The verdict was carried out by the High Court of the Federal Territory, Wuse Zone 2, Abuja.

Recall that Peter was arrested and found guilty of murdering his wife. The deceased sister’s report to the authorities. An autopsy result revealed that Peter often beat his wife, leading to scars and bruises.

During the trial, the prosecution presented two of the couple’s children, 15 witnesses, and 25 documentary exhibits as evidence. The defence presented Peter’s testimony, four additional witnesses and four exhibits. Nevertheless, the presiding judge of the case, Justice Nwosu-Iheme, found  Peter guilty beyond a doubt of culpable homicide, which led to Osinachi’s death on April 8, 2022, after years of domestic abuse.

Additionally, Peter was handed two-year prison terms each for Counts 2, 3, 8, 9, 12, 13, and 18; a six-month prison sentence on Count 10; and a three-year sentence on Count 11. Fines of ₦500,000 and ₦200,000 were imposed on Counts 6 and 7, respectively.

Osinachi is among the thousands of victims of femicide in Nigeria, and numerous women who face domestic violence at the hands of their intimate partners. The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency advises survivors to call their toll-free number: 0800 033 3333 in the case of any incidents.
