Nigerian chef and Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci has donated the sum of ₦1 million to support organisations working with rape and sexual abuse survivors, in honour of the late 13-year-old Ochanya Ogbanje.
In a statement she shared on her Instagram page on October 30, 2025, Hilda announced the pledge of ₦2 million. She explained that the late Ochanya’s story is a painful reminder of how many girls continue to live with deep emotional and physical wounds from abuse.
Ochanya Ogbanja was a 13-year-old schoolgirl from Benue State who died in 2018 after years of sexual abuse reportedly perpetrated by her uncle, Mr Andrew Ogbuja, and his son, Victor Ogbuja. Her death has sparked nationwide outrage, with many calling for the case to be reopened and the perpetrators apprehended..
“There are many Ochanyas among us. Some have found their voice. Some are still silent. And some didn’t get the chance to make it through,” Hilda said.
Hilda explained that her contribution was aimed at supporting the fight against sexual violence and strengthening efforts to hold perpetrators accountable. She donated to the GoFundMe campaign supporting the pursuit of justice for Ochanya and encouraged others to contribute or support in other ways.
She added, “Justice isn’t only about courtrooms, it’s also about compassion, restoration, and ensuring that the next generation grows up in a safer world.”
