Summary
Lagos State has launched the Women's Economic Empowerment Policy, a roadmap to eradicate women’s limitations to economic participation, promote gender equity, and foster inclusive growth. The policy aims to enable women in Lagos State to reach their full potential.
The Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has facilitated the launch of the Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) policy, centred on five key pillars: entrepreneurship, skill acquisition, traditional labour market, agriculture, and emerging industries.
To reinforce the state’s commitment to women’s economic participation, gender equity, and inclusive growth, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, launched the WEE policy roadmap on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Shell Hall, MUSCON centre, Onikan, Lagos State.
The policy plans to remove barriers to women’s economic participation. It is built on understanding the challenges and needs of women in Lagos State, including entrepreneurs, farmers, students, and professionals.
It is shaped with input from women’s organisations, NGOs, the government, and the private sector, as well as women living with disabilities. Its target is to empower women with tools, training, finance, and opportunities to thrive.
The Lagos state governor assured that the policy would work across all sectors and that every woman in Lagos would have the opportunity to reach her full potential.
