Late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, an entrepreneur and the Contact and Mobilisation Committee leader of the United Nigeria Congress Party, has banned his wife, Lolo Frances Iwuanyanwu, from remarrying after his demise.
The politician, who died in April 2024 at the age of 81, wrote the restriction as a part of his last testament. The duo married in 2021, after his late wife, Eudora Iwuanyanwu, died in August 2011.
According to THE WILL, a U.S.-based online platform, his last testament was unveiled on June 16, 2025, by his lawyer, Chief Chukwuma Ekomaru (SAN). The testament outlines the distribution of the billionaire’s estate but places strict conditions on his properties, especially those given to his wife, Lolo Frances.
Lolo Frances will inherit the Legacy House located on Port Harcourt Road, Owerri, alongside ownership of Magil Furniture and stakes in multiple real estate holdings across Orji, Works Layout, and Naze, all in Imo State. However, all these come with one condition: she must remain a widow. The late husband also forbids her from selling the Legacy House.
This has sparked conversations on social media about men’s control and inheritance rights in Nigeria.
@bimxy on Twitter tweeted, “Trying to control a woman’s life while dead.” Another user, @reet_a_tweet, expressed disgust, “Is this thing not living in bondage? Even in death, he still wants to control her.”
