A 41-year-old man accused of domestic violence and linked to the death of his wife, Glory Ubong Uwak, has joined a Christian dating group just days after her death, sparking widespread outrage.
Despite an autopsy report indicating evidence of violence, the man has reportedly joined a singles dating group titled “God-fearing Singles” in search of a new relationship.
According to reports, there were multiple reports of physical abuse during the couple’s marriage. An autopsy funded by her employer, Roberta Edu, revealed a deep crack in Glory’s skull, bleeding from the head to the throat area, and signs of strangulation. Although the man was initially arrested, he was later released for unknown reasons.
In a Facebook post, Roberta Edu, Glory’s employer, shared the timeline of events, from the moment she was informed of her staff member’s sudden death to the efforts made to pursue justice.
“After hearing so much, I contacted her family members, and they all confirmed that she had endured abuse. Together with some of Glory’s friends, we supported her family in filing an official complaint,” Roberta wrote.
Despite support from friends, lawyers, and some police authorities, Roberta Edu revealed that Glory’s family eventually withdrew the petition and even began to oppose those pushing for accountability. She recounted how the husband’s father wrote to the police defending his son and asking that the case be dropped.
“How do you lose a daughter, and then join hands with the suspect, when the autopsy clearly shows she didn’t die naturally, to fight those asking for justice?” Roberta questioned.
She added that repeated attempts were made to bribe the police and derail the investigation, with her eventually escalating the matter to Police Headquarters in Abuja. Despite this, the man was released.
The situation has sparked widespread outrage on social media. On X, user @Jamesoflife wrote:
“This is a murderer btw, he killed his wife and is presently in search of his next victim. Beware!!!!”
Another user, @TildaJojo, added:
“Finding out he’s also abusive and he killed her breaks my heart. He just got out of prison and has the audacity to post about looking for a new wife on a dating platform. This is terrible, so terrible.”
The late Glory Ubong Uwak is set to be buried on August 1 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Femicide in Nigeria remains a deeply underreported crisis, with many cases going uninvestigated or dismissed due to cultural stigma and weak legal enforcement. As a result, countless victims are denied justice, while perpetrators walk free.
