Mary Yul-Edochie has taken legal action against lawyer Emeka Ugwuonye. She is suing him of cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and defamation in a cease-and-desist notice issued by her legal team.
Nigerian entrepreneur and influencer Mary Yul-Edochie has taken legal action against lawyer and social commentator Emeka Ugwuonye. She accuses him of cyberstalking, cyberbullying, defamation, and malicious falsehood.
In a cease-and-desist notice issued by her legal representatives, Gray Law Partners, Mary claimed that Emeka Ugwuonye’s repeated social media posts about her private life were not only defamatory but also amounted to public shaming, gaslighting, and threats to her safety.
The notice, addressed to Emeka, stated that his publications had caused “serious and irreparable injury” to Mary’s reputation and business while instigating third parties to amplify the damaging claims. Her lawyers emphasised that the conduct was malicious, false, and calculated to ridicule and harm her.
Her legal team demanded that he immediately cease further publications, delete existing defamatory content, and issue both a written public apology and a retraction on all platforms where the claims were originally made.
The letter warned that failure to comply within 48 hours would lead to civil and criminal proceedings, including claims for aggravated damages, emotional distress, and injunctions restraining further publications.
Gray Law Partners stressed that the matter would be pursued vigorously, with potential charges under Nigeria’s cybercrime laws.
