Summary

Abdulkareem Kadiri, an Imam cleric in Osun State, has been arrested by the police for raping an 8-year-old child in Aranka community. The survivor's mother was said to have caught him in the act.

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of an Islamic cleric, identified as Abdulkareem Kadiri, for reportedly raping an eight-year-old girl in the Babasanya-Aranka area of Ede, Osun State.

The incident, which occurred on July 5, 2025, triggered outrage in the community, with angry residents attacking the perpetrator before security operatives intervened.

It was gathered that the child had been sent on an errand earlier that day but failed to return. Her worried mother searched for her and reportedly caught the cleric in the act.

The survivor’s mother raised the alarm after catching the man in the act. The girl was crying and bleeding from her private part when she was found. The mother’s cries attracted attention from residents, who rushed to the scene and confronted the cleric.

Some people tried to help the culprit escape, but angry residents stopped them. The girl was taken to Babasanya Hospital for a medical test.

Due to rising tension around the hospital and within the community, Amotekun operatives helped secure the area and ensured the perpetrator was transferred to the police.

Abiodun Ojelabi, spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed that the case was reported to the police, and operatives were immediately deployed to the scene.

“He is in our custody already. But we want the Division to investigate before the matter is transferred to SCID. That is all that is available for now.”

Further details revealed that the perpetrator is an Imam of a mosque. He also has an Arabic school in the area where he is teaching students Arabic.

The survivor is currently receiving medical care, and the police have begun a formal investigation. The case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further action.
