Naija Feminists Media (NFM) has been recognised at the 2025 ReportHer Awards for Excellence in Inclusive Advocacy and Reportage. The award, organised by Women Radio 91.7FM and the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ), was held on November 28, 2024, in Lagos at the Amber Residence.
This year, the awards recognise outstanding performance in four key areas: Female Leadership Representation, Inclusive Advocacy and Reportage, Pro-Women Workplace Policy, and Gender-Based Reporting.
The Inclusive and Reportage category celebrates media organisations that prioritise women’s representation, amplify women’s voices, and demonstrate a sustained commitment to gender sensitive reporting and advanced inclusive storytelling. NFM emerged as the first runner-up in its category out of 72 applications, underscoring its exceptional work in exposing and analysing gender issues while providing solution-driven and nuanced media coverage that promotes gender equality and inclusion.
Reacting to the recognition, NFM’s Founding Director, Simbiat Bakare, said,
“We are proud to have received such significant industry recognition at the early stage of our work. Being the youngest organisation recognised across the categories shows that our work is important, and our passion and commitment to gender equality have not gone unnoticed.”
Through investigative reporting, multimedia storytelling, and community engagement, NFM has consistently amplified women’s voices and brought attention to pressing issues affecting women and girls in Nigeria.
The ReportHer Awards 2025, supported by the Ford Foundation, aim not only to recognise excellence in gender-sensitive journalism but also to drive systemic change within the Nigerian media sector, encouraging newsrooms nationwide to adopt equitable editorial practices and inclusive workplace policies.
