As we mark our first anniversary at Naija Feminists Media (NFM), we reflect on a year of bold reporting, feminist advocacy, and women-centred storytelling. Since launching in 2024, we’ve published over 1,000 stories, from media literacy and activism to active reporting and projects.

On August 28, 2024, 15-year-old Goodluck Bisong was taken into custody by the military for battering and raping a 14-year-old girl to near death in Ebonyi State. Goodluck, the son of an army official, forced entry into his neighbour’s house by tearing the net of their window. Upon seeing 14-year-old Mercy Vangervihi fast asleep, he snuck into the house’s kitchen, picked up a pestle, and entered Mercy’s room. He then hit Mercy with the pestle and raped her while she was in bed. Our report eventually sparked global conversations on male violence against women and girls. It also led to a crowdfunding of N3.2million for the medical intervention of the survivor.
