Summary
Naija Feminists Media (NFM) and AdvoKC Foundation have partnered to push for women’s political inclusion and key policy reforms. The collaboration will track and enforce promises on gender equality, labour rights, and governance accountability.
Naija Feminists Media (NFM) has partnered with AdvoKC Foundation, a youth-led, civic technology organisation committed to promoting good governance and accountability in Nigeria.
The collaboration seeks to advance women’s political participation by holding elected officials accountable for promises made on gender equality.
AdvoKC Foundation, also known as AdvoKC, is dedicated to empowering Nigerians through data and advocacy. It focuses on tracking and enforcing political commitments that impact citizens, especially women and youth. Together with NFM, the partnership will drive a campaign to ensure women’s inclusion in politics and leadership.
The joint campaign will push for three reforms: amending the Police Act 2022 to remove discriminatory enlistment rules against women, revisiting the Labour Act to expand women’s employment opportunities, and ensuring Governor Monday Okpebholo fulfils his pledge of 35 per cent women’s representation in the Edo State cabinet.
The campaign ties into the Legislative Agenda Meter, a tool on Promise Tracker NG that monitors how well the National Assembly delivers on its Legislative Agenda. The Agenda is meant to act as a social contract with Nigerians, assess performance, and demand action when lawmakers fall behind.
As part of its role in the partnership, NFM will leverage media and activism to ensure lawmakers fulfil their promises to women and actively work to ensure campaign promises are upheld. Consequently, the public is encouraged to sign the petition urging the Edo State Government to fulfil its pledge of allocating 35 per cent of cabinet positions to women.
This call to action comes after the Edo State House of Assembly confirmed eight new male commissioners on August 20, 2025, falling short of Governor Okpebholo’s promise to allocate cabinet positions to women.
Through this partnership, NFM and AdvoKC aim to promote democratic governance and accountability in women’s participation in leadership.
