Naija Feminists Media (NFM) has partnered with the DOHS Cares Foundation for the Global Race Against Femicide, set to take place on Nov. 30, 2024, at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, Nigeria.
This 5-kilometer mini-marathon, tagged #iRaceAgainstFemicide, aims to bring attention to the alarming rates of femicide in Nigeria and rally support for those impacted by gender-based violence.
The race, which is a part of the #16DaysofActivism to Eradicate Violence Against Women, is a global movement to end violence against women and girls. Through this event, the DOHS Foundation seeks to raise funds to track femicide cases, provide essential resources for survivors, and establish a safe shelter for those escaping abuse in Nigeria.
Together with NFM, they are calling for the introduction of a Femicide Bill to address this crisis on a legislative level, urging the Nigerian government to take immediate action.
While speaking with Ololade Ajayi, Founder of the DOHS Cares Foundation, mentioned that through the Global Race Against Femicide, the Foundation intends to declare that femicide will no longer be tolerated and put out a call to action for the government, urging them to prioritise the protection of women and girls and to bring justice to those affected.
“This race is also being held to put the government on notice about our refusal to tolerate nonchalant about Femicide anymore and requesting for the Femicide Bill to be introduced by the Legislation,” she said.
NFM has also stated that the partnership is important because it will help advocate for women’s rights and social justice, which is the organisation’s core mission.
“This collaboration allows us to amplify efforts to raise awareness, advocate for policy change, and ultimately protect women and girls worldwide,” said Nkechi Igwebuike, Partnerships and Projects Officer, NFM.
Interested individuals can register for the race at DOHS Race Against Femicide. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for organisations looking to contribute to this vital cause, with benefits including logo placements, media recognition, and race-day presence.
