The First Lady of Nigeria, in her Independence Day message marking the country’s 65th anniversary, urged citizens to embrace sacrifice, unity, and patriotism in building a greater nation.
The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on citizens to embrace unity, sacrifice, and patriotism in the quest to build a greater nation, as the country celebrates its 65th Independence Anniversary.
In a statement titled “Nigeria at 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” posted on her official Instagram account on October 1, 2025, she drew inspiration from the historic writings of Lebanese-American poet and philosopher, Gebran Khalil Gebran.
“The New Frontier,” she stated, “Are you a politician, asking what your country can do for you or a zealous one, asking what you can do for your country? If you are the first, then you are a parasite; if the second, then you are an oasis in a desert.”
Going further, she also quoted the famous words of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy during his 1961 inaugural address: “My fellow citizens, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”
“Let us all play our part to build a Nigeria we all want to see. Your sacrifice will never be in vain,” she urged Nigerians.
