Olukemi Ibikunle, Chief Superintendent of Corrections with the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), has been announced as the winner of the 2025 United Nations Trailblazer Award for Women Justice and Corrections Officers.Â
The award celebrates women professionals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and commitment to justice and correctional excellence across the globe.
Conferred by the United Nations Department of Peace Operations (UNDPO), the award was presented by Her Excellency Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, during a ceremony at the UN Headquarters in New York. It honours her outstanding contributions to correctional reform, inmate rehabilitation, and the protection of human rights within custodial environments.
According to the NCoS, the recognition shows Olukemi’s professional excellence, integrity, and passion for humanitarian service. Out of five nominees selected globally, two were Nigerian officers, Olukemi Ibikunle and Sarah Adole. Olukemi was nominated for her work with the United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), while Sarah received recognition for her service with United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission (MINUSCA).
CSC Olukemi Ibikunle emerged as the overall winner, earning international acclaim for her inspiring work in correctional administration, gender inclusion, and inmate rehabilitation. Her achievement further strengthens Nigeria’s growing reputation for professionalism and global relevance in the justice and corrections sector.
