Nigerian Correctional Service Appoints Jane Osuji as First Female PRO

The Nigerian Correctional Service has appointed Chief Superintendent Jane Osuji as its first female Public Relations Officer, bringing her extensive experience to the role. She succeeds Deputy Controller of Corrections Umar Abubakar, who retired on November 19, 2025.

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has appointed Chief Superintendent of Corrections (CSC) Jane Osuji as its new Public Relations Officer, making it the first time a woman will hold the position. The appointment takes immediate effect.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Controller-General of the Service, Sylvester Nwakuche, and signed on his behalf by the Deputy Controller-General of Corrections, Ado Sale. Jane succeeds Deputy Controller of Corrections Umar Abubakar, who retired on November 19, 2025.

Jane Osuji, a native of Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, holds a BSc in Public Relations and Advertising from Lagos State University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso. 

She joined the then–Nigerian Prisons Service in 2009 as an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons II and has completed all the requisite professional courses for her rank, including the Internal Security/Low-Intensity Conflict Operations Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji.

She brings extensive experience in public relations to her new role. Within the NCoS, Osuji has served as Assistant Public Relations Officer in the Lagos State Command, Public Relations Officer for the FCT Command, and Assistant National Public Relations Officer at the National Headquarters, serving under four Controllers-General.

Beyond the Service, Jane Osuji also worked closely with the Ministry of Interior, serving as Press Secretary to three successive Ministers of Interior from 2015 to 2023. Until her latest appointment, she was deployed to the Public Relations Unit at the NCoS Headquarters in Abuja.

The Service described her as a dedicated and accomplished officer with a distinguished record of service.
