Kagbaranee Imeah, a Nigerian woman, has reported on Facebook that her husband assaulted her over her choice of attire during a school run. Her harrowing account, shared on Facebook alongside photos of her injuries, has sparked outrage and calls for justice, highlighting the urgent need to address domestic violence in Nigeria.
In a disturbing case of domestic violence, an unidentified Nigerian man reportedly beat up his wife, Kagbaranee Imeah, over her choice of clothing while making a school run.
On Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, Kagbaranee took to Facebook to share shocking images of her bloodied and swollen face. According to her post, she was brutally beaten up by her husband because she wore a singlet to drop off their children at school.
“This is what my husband did to me because I wear a singlet to take the children to school,” she wrote, accompanied by graphic photos that showed the extent of her injuries.
Kagbaranee’s post has since gone viral, sparking widespread outrage and renewed conversations about domestic violence in Nigeria. Social media users have condemned the assault, with many calling for the immediate arrest of her husband and justice for Kagbaranee.
The incident highlights the pervasive issue of male violence against women in Nigeria, where women often face physical and emotional abuse from men within their homes. Naija Feminists Media has documented many of the issues here. According to research, nearly one in every three women have been victims of physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Nigeria also recorded that 1 in 3 Nigerian women have experienced physical violence by age 15.
This case adds to the growing list of reported domestic violence incidents in the country, emphasising the need for stronger laws and enforcement to protect women and hold perpetrators accountable.
