Summary

Nigerians call on the intervention of child protection services as Nigerian lawyer, Ben Kingsley Nwashara, posts worrisome content about his adopted daughter. X users raise concerns about cane marks on the child’s body and inappropriate dressing on a public platform.

A post shared by a Nigerian X (formerly Twitter) user, @Benking443, on June 3, 2025, has sparked widespread outrage. It featured a photo of his adopted daughter dressed only in underwear and a singlet, with cane marks on her body. Ben Kingsley Nwashara, in 2022, rescued the child as a two-year-old abandoned by a mentally ill mother in Enugu State.

The post was captioned: “This is a new shoe, and how she adeptly peeled and turned them into this in one day is crazy.” The posts amassed 2.7 million views, 3,000 likes, and 1,900 reposts, as X users highlight that the peeled shoe is due to a lack of quality product buying.

Visible bruises and marks on the girl’s body in the viral post also sparked serious concerns, with many suggesting they may be signs of abuse. X users questioned the man’s right to care for the child. Some are demanding to know whether he legally adopted her or simply assumed custody without proper processes.

X users condemned the child’s inappropriate state of undress and the cane marks on her body. They questioned Kingsley’s fitness as a parent, sparking calls for authorities to intervene.

@Miz_Fey described the situation as either serious neglect or a possible cover-up: “And why is a child in just a singlet and pants being posted online in 2025, with AI predators and pedophiles everywhere?”

@EknoredaVickky questioned, saying: “Is that why you beat her this much! This is not right at all! How about the little girl you’ve beaten blue-black? And why post her pic for us? Mtcheew.”

“In a world where men undress girls with the help of Grok, you decided to make it easier by posting your daughter like this??” @sheisdonlyone commented on X.

When confronted about the visible bruises on the girl’s skin, he claimed on X that the marks were likely from his younger sister or possibly from school, adding that he only noticed them the previous night after someone zoomed in on the photo. However, many users share that the explanation lacks credibility.

“This is untrue,” @oladebby10 commented. “The marks look fresh, and you can tell from her eyes that she was recently flogged. Please do better.”

While the man has denied beating the girl, a separate post shows him admitting to flogging her for “spoiling her lunchbox.”

This has further heightened public concern for the child’s safety, with many calling on the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) and other relevant authorities to intervene.

@PrincessUfuoma_ said on X: “Oh my oh my. We need more child protection and parenting orientation in Africa.”
