Officer Ogboru Akpevwe, an Assistant Comptroller of Customs in the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has completed a 72-hour solo motorcycle journey from Nigeria to Belgium, and back. Her journey spanned through twenty-two countries, including Africa and Europe.
She began her journey on August 1, 2025 and returned on Saturday, October 11, 2025. Her expedition, themed “Ride for Women Inclusivity and Cross-Border Research,” aimed to promote gender inclusivity and empower girls.
“This ride is for women’s inclusivity and the empowerment of the girl-child. It’s to encourage all women and tell them, be strong, don’t be discouraged, anything you set your mind to do, do it, don’t allow anybody to discourage you,” she said.
Officer Ogboru explained that her journey was motivated by a mission to encourage women to pursue their dreams fearlessly despite opposition or doubts from others. She expressed hope that her cross-continental experience would strengthen African-Europe relations and inspire collaborative growth.
Upon her return, she was received at the Seme-Krake Joint Border Post by senior customs officials and a large number of other officers. Notably, she is the first officer in the history of Nigeria’s Customs Service to achieve such a feat.
