Ololade Ayelabola, graduate of the University of Lagos has been officially certified by the Guinness World Records (GWR) for achieving the longest distance walked on a catwalk by a model.
GWR announced the achievement on its website on March 10, 2025, stating:
“The longest distance walked on a catwalk by a model is 125.11 km (77.74 mi) and was achieved by Ololade Ayelabola (Nigeria), in Lagos, Nigeria, on 1 October 2024. Ololade attempted this record to inspire others and challenge fashion students.”
Her feat, accomplished at the Indoor Sports Center of the University of Lagos, surpassed the previous record of 114.4 km, which had stood since 1983, set by Roberta Brown and Lorraine McCourt in Dublin, Ireland.
Celebrating her win on Instagram, Ololade encouraged others to pursue their dreams fearlessly.
“History Made! I’m beyond thrilled to announce that I’ve set the new Guinness World Record for the longest distance walked on a catwalk by a model! A testament to how powerful we are when we dare to dream To God Almighty, my father and my creator, I am most grateful.”
During the record-breaking walk, Ololade showcased outfits from Nigerian designers, including a collection from the UNILAG Theatre Arts Department.
At the time of her attempt, Ololade Ayelabola was a student at UNILAG. She has since graduated with a BSc in Computer Science. It was also reported that the former beauty queen was inspired to take on the challenge due to the discrimination and disqualification models often face during auditions, despite their talent.
