Summary: Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde’s directorial debut Mother’s Love has surpassed N100 million at the Nigerian box office while making history as the first Nollywood film to donate 100% of its earnings to charity.

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde’s directorial debut, Mother’s Love, has crossed the N100 million mark at the Nigerian box office, while setting a historic precedent as the first Nollywood film to donate 100 per cent of its earnings to charity. According to the filmmakers, earnings accruing to Omotola’s production company, RedHot Concepts, will be fully channelled into donations.

The funds are being directed to Slum2School Africa, a Lagos-based organisation focused on providing education, scholarships, and support for children in underserved communities. The initiative places particular emphasis on vulnerable children in areas such as Makoko.

Omotola made the announcement at a private screening on March 13, 2026, saying she wanted to use her 30-year career to create social impact. She has spent years in front of the camera, becoming a TIME 100 honouree, a UN World Food Programme Ambassador, and one of the most-followed entertainers in Africa.

The film, which premiered in Lagos on March 1, 2026, and opened in cinemas nationwide on March 6, has continued to gain traction with audiences. Prior to its Nigerian release, it was screened at international platforms, including the Toronto International Film Festival and the Pan African Film Festival.

Mother’s Love represents Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde’s first venture into directing. Featuring a cast that includes Ifeanyi Kalu, Lilian Afegbai, Nosa Rex, and Olumide Oworu, the film follows Adebisi, a young woman raised in privilege, as her life begins to shift during her National Youth Service Corps year. As she navigates life away from home, tensions emerge between her and her protective mother.
