Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington or Akpi, has triggered public outrage after confessing to raping a minor. During the live session, the artist spoke in Igbo, complaining he had to pay a hotel staff N2,000 to clean blood stains from a bedsheet after his sexual violence.
Speed Darlington said in Igbo: “Before they could come change the sheets for me, I had to let go of N2,000. Because the thing is, somehow, to tell an adult to come and clean blood; blood that I brought out of the body of a 15-year-old girl.”
He added that he could never work for anyone, least of all in a hotel, saying, “I only work for myself.”
As the video continues to make rounds on social media, Nigerians call on the government for swift intervention and justice for the survivor.
“He didn’t ‘sleep’ with a 15-year-old. He raped the 15-year-old and should be arrested asap. Lagosdsva, PoliceNG, these are the criminals you should be hunting,” SavvyRinu said.
Wuraunfiltered also said, “He’s a very big idiot and deserves to be locked up and castrated.”
Adding to the call for justice, Symply_kimm commented: “Arrest him now!!!!!”
Similarly, in 2022, Speed Darlington faced public backlash following a heated Instagram live video in which two women accused him of inappropriate conduct with a minor. One of the women urged him to continue his live video to expose him as a rapist and accused him of trying to message a 16-year-old house girl. During the confrontation outside his apartment, he held up a knife while denying the reports.
The incident has sparked widespread discussion on the issue of pedophilia in Nigeria and how older men often exploit young girls with little to no accountability.
