Summary

Phyna’s younger sister, Ruth Otabor, has died from injuries she sustained in a Dangote truck accident. Her family confirmed the sad development in a statement.

Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Ijeoma Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has passed away following injuries sustained in a road accident involving a Dangote truck.

The family confirmed the development in a statement issued through their legal representatives, Eko Solicitors & Advocates, on August 31, 2025. The statement, signed by Justice Segun Ojienoh, announced that Ruth died at about 6:30 a.m.

“With a heavy heart the family regrets to announce the passing on to the glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st day of August, 2025, at about 06:30hrs,” the statement reads.

Ruth, a recent graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, was struck by a Dangote truck on August 13, 2025, just six days after completing her studies. The accident left her with severe injuries, including the amputation of one leg, further damage to the other, and trauma to her head and hand. She remained on life support until her death.

Phyna had raised alarm over her sister’s critical condition, calling out Aliko Dangote on social media. She accused the Dangote Group of attempting to shield those responsible and failing to follow through on a promise to sponsor comprehensive medical treatment abroad.

In response, the Dangote Group released an official statement expressing deep sorrow over Ruth Otabor’s passing and offering condolences to her family. The company noted that it had covered her medical expenses, arranged advanced treatment abroad, and reaffirmed its commitment to safety, accountability, and compassion.
