Summary: The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested three suspects, including two brothers, in connection with the murder of Abuja-based lawyer Princess Chigbo. She was killed during an attempted “one-chance” armed robbery on the Kubwa Expressway, as part of an ongoing investigation into the syndicate’s activities.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection with the murder of Abuja-based legal practitioner, Princess Chigbo, who were involved in “one-chance” armed robbery operations in the city.

On January 7, 2026, the lifeless body of Princess Chigbo Mediatrix was discovered dumped along the Kubwa Expressway in the FCT.

In a statement issued on January 11, 2026, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police (SP) Josephine Adeh, described the arrests as a major breakthrough in the Command’s ongoing fight against violent crime in the nation’s capital.

According to Adeh, the suspects are alleged members of a notorious “one-chance” armed robbery syndicate that has operated intermittently within the FCT for several years. The arrests followed directives from the Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, to ensure that those responsible for the killing and similar crimes are brought to justice.

Adeh said operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Victor Godfrey, tracked the victim’s mobile phone using reconstructive digital intelligence between January 5 and 20. Follow-up operations were conducted in the Dei-Dei, Dakwa, and Dan-Tata communities within the Kubwa area, resulting in the arrest of the three suspects, two of whom are biological brothers.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects attacked Princess Chigbo after she unknowingly boarded their black Volkswagen Golf 3 vehicle along the Kubwa Expressway. Police said the suspects wound up the tinted windows, threatened her with weapons and attempted to force her to pay a ransom for her release.

“When she reportedly refused to cooperate, she was physically assaulted and pushed out of the moving vehicle along the Kubwa Expressway, resulting in her death,” Adeh said.

The suspects reportedly dispossessed the victim of her Android mobile phone, which was later sold at Dei-Dei for N120,000. Police said the proceeds were shared among the suspects and another accomplice who is currently at large.

Items recovered from the suspects include five scissors, two dagger knives, two knives, a long chain believed to have been used to restrain victims, and a pair of pliers. Police said the exhibits are believed to have been used in the commission of their crimes.

Adeh added that investigations are ongoing, with efforts intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect and uncover any additional criminal networks linked to the syndicate.

She said the Commissioner of Police has commended the operatives for their efforts and reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to ensuring safety across the FCT, while urging members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid boarding unregistered or suspicious vehicles.
