Hello friend, Did you hear that Donald Trump, the President of the US, signed an executive order titled “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government”? This significant action establishes a government-wide recognition of the biological reality of the two sexes, affirming that women are adult human females. It invites us to reflect on the curious reality that it took a misogynistic figure, often criticised for being accused of rape, to enact this crucial order on women’s rights. In a world where progressive allies frequently label women as bigots for asserting that sex is binary and immutable, this executive order disrupts the prevailing narrative. Women who dare to voice their understanding of sex and gender often encounter hostility and even threats, raising important questions about how we define and defend womanhood. This order not only defends women’s rights but also sets a precedent for countries that have wrongly claimed that sex is mutable and non-binary. It compels us to consider how society interprets gender and the implications these interpretations have on women’s safety and the spaces designed for them. In reflecting on this moment, we must ask ourselves: What does it mean for women’s rights when such an acknowledgement has to come from a controversial figure? How is it that womanhood is regarded so fickle that the acknowledgement or denial of women as a sex class is dependent on male presidents? At Naija Feminists Media, we offer diverse knowledge products in feminism and cultivate a vibrant community of feminists. Together, we can engage in meaningful discussions about these complexities and empower one another in our advocacy for women’s rights. With love and solidarity,The NFM Team. |

The Need for Financial Independence as a WomanBy: Favour Etinosa Women who control their money can confidently make decisions about their lives, careers, and futures. Instead of relying on a man or external sources of income, women can become the decision-makers in their own lives. Financial independence enables women to prioritise their well-being and avoid situations that no longer serve them. It empowers women to pursue bold careers or start their businesses, challenging traditional gender roles. As more women achieve financial autonomy, they break stereotypes and prove their ability to lead and manage wealth. Women who prioritise financial independence set an example for younger generations. They demonstrate the importance of ambition, resilience, and pursuing goals beyond societal expectations. This shift is crucial for younger generations to witness. When young girls see women in their lives owning businesses, investing, and managing their money confidently, they are inspired to believe that financial independence is possible for them. Read more on why women need to be financially independent to retain their agency fully. |
