Summary

Nigerian actress Regina Daniels has accused her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, of domestic violence, claiming in a viral video that he sent thugs to assault her. The senator, evading addressing the allegation directly, claimed  Regina struggles with drug and alcohol addiction.

Nigerian actress Regina Daniels has accused her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North in the National Assembly, of domestic violence. She claimed that she had endured repeated abuse in their marriage.

A viral video circulating on social media showed Regina Daniels visibly distressed, claiming that the senator sent thugs to assault her. In the clip, she is seen shouting and crying while people around her attempt to calm her down.

“Ned sent thugs; in Ned Nwoko’s house, I’m nothing but in my house, I’m a queen. What again, I can’t stand the violence, it’s too much,” she said in the footage.

Her brother, Samuel Daniels, also took to Instagram to confirm the assault, accusing the senator of beating his sister and smashing her head against a wall before she fled the scene. He noted that it wasn’t the first time and condemned violence against women.

“If I catch Ned that day, I for don burst him jaw” he wrote “If I catch Ned that day, I for don burst him jaw”

The video has sparked widespread reactions on social media, particularly among feminists.

X user @ChisomOgamba wrote, “This Ned Nwoko situation is another reason why feminism is important. Regina is a victim who was used by society to glamorise an age-old practice that has never benefited women.”

Similarly, user @Bube_Aji19 noted, “There was no way a girl in her early 20s marrying a man in his late 50s could ever have an equal relationship. The imbalance of power will always be staggering, no matter how much it’s glamorised.”

In response to the viral video and reports, Senator Ned Nwoko claimed on social media that his wife was battling drug and alcohol addiction. However, he did not address the domestic violence claims.

“Regina was not always like this. Her current battle with drugs and alcohol abuse is the root of our problem. She must continue her rehabilitation programme, or I fear for her life and safety,” he wrote in the statement titled “Regina’s Unprovoked Carnage and Rampage in My House and in My Absence.”

Ned Nwoko further claimed that he had urged her to seek treatment in Asokoro, Abuja, or abroad, but that she refused. He also said that she had become violent towards staff members and damaged property at home.

Regina Daniels, 25, and Ned Nwoko, 65, got married in 2019 and now have two children together. The union attracted public attention due to their nearly 40-year age gap, with Regina being a teenager at the time of the wedding and Nwoko being a polygamist.
