Summary
Dora Moono Nyambe, a 30-year-old teacher and philanthropist who fostered over 200 children, educated 500, and transformed lives in her community, has tragically passed away.
Dora Moono Nyambe, a teacher, philanthropist, and foster mother who transformed the lives of hundreds, has passed away at the age of 30. She died on Wednesday, December 25th, after reportedly falling ill in the night and driving herself to the hospital.
Dora began her journey by adopting 16 children and fostering three. Upon moving to Mpapa village in Mkushi, she encountered severe poverty and children who lacked access to education. Determined to make a difference, she started makeshift classes under a tree, which eventually evolved into the Leaving Footprints of Hope school.
Through her TikTok account, Dora documented her journey, garnering over 4 million followers and raising KSh 6.5 million ($450,000) to fund her projects. The funds enabled her to expand the school, construct classrooms, and provide food and shelter for the children. At the time of her death, she had helped over 500 children and employed 35 staff members to support her efforts.
Despite her remarkable achievements, Dora faced resistance from her community. Villagers doubted her ability to adopt and foster children due to her young age and unmarried status. However, she defied these challenges, becoming a proud adoptive mother of 12 and a foster mother of three. She also actively worked to rescue girls from early marriages and protect children from abuse.
Her death has sparked unfounded rumors of witchcraft, though the exact cause remains unclear. Her final social media post on Christmas Day showed her in good health and spirits, making her sudden passing all the more shocking.
Dora’s funeral is set to take place on Saturday, December 28th, at her school in Mpapa village. She is remembered as a humble, compassionate, and selfless individual whose life’s work brought hope and transformation to her community.
