Popular humanitarian, business strategist,  media personality and motivator Sally Suleiman has officially assumed office as the Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

Announcing her appointment on LinkedIn today, Feb. 9, 2025, Sally described the role as a continuation of her years of advocacy and impact in sustainable development. She pledged to drive initiatives that align with the 17 SDGs, focusing on education, healthcare, gender equality, poverty alleviation, economic empowerment, and renewable energy.

“This isn’t just a title—it’s a reflection of my years of advocacy and impact. From championing education for children to driving initiatives that uplift communities, my journey has been about creating sustainable change, and this appointment is a call to do more,” she wrote.

Sally also outlined her key responsibilities, which include developing and implementing strategies to accelerate Edo State’s progress on the SDGs, securing partnerships and funding to bridge developmental gaps, and ensuring that government policies integrate SDG principles. She also emphasized the importance of working with ministries, agencies, and development partners to execute projects that uplift vulnerable communities.

“We are open to partnerships, sponsorships, and strategic alliances that align with the SDGs. We also welcome Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to drive sustainable solutions and uplift communities in Edo State,” she added.

Her appointment has drawn commendation from stakeholders, including Lagos State’s Special Adviser on SDGs, Oreoluwa Finnih, who described it as a crucial step in strengthening women’s voices in governance and advancing sustainable development in Nigeria.

“One thing I have always been a firm advocate for is the full participation of women in governance and decision-making. With our unique perspectives to life, we are not only able to enrich policies but also drive meaningful change, making our inclusion not just necessary but invaluable,” Oreoluwa said.

She described Sally as an “amazon” whose leadership would contribute to Edo State’s progress on the SDGs and expressed hope for collaboration between their offices to achieve a more sustainable and prosperous future.

Sally’s appointment marks a new chapter in Edo State’s commitment to sustainable development, with expectations high for the impact of her leadership in advancing the SDGs.
