Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has been sworn in for a second term on Nov 3, 2025. The inauguration ceremony, held at a military parade ground in the capital, Dodoma, replaced the usual public event at a stadium and was closed to the public. The proceedings were broadcast live on state television.

President Samia was declared the winner on November 1, 2025 with 98% of the vote, after key opposition figures were either imprisoned or barred from running.

Leaders from across the region have extended their congratulations following her re-election.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni congratulated her re-election on X, noting that the victory reflects the confidence the people of Tanzania have in President Samia’s leadership and vision.

“I look forward to working with President Samia to further strengthen our partnership in trade, infrastructure, and regional integration for the peace and prosperity of our peoples.”

Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Defence, Hon. Aden Bare Duale, also extended his congratulations, saying:

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan on her re-election as the President of the United Republic of Tanzania. Congratulations and best wishes as your purpose is to serve the people of Tanzania.”

From Zimbabwe, the Minister of Information, Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Hon. Tatenda A. Mavetera, highlighted the symbolic importance of President Samia’s victory. 

“A monumental moment for Tanzania. My heartfelt congratulations to Her Excellency President Samia Suluhu Hassan.”

She noted that the win paves the way for women and girls across the continent and proves that with determination, every ceiling can be shattered.

President Samia, became Tanzania’s first female head of state in 2021 following the death of her predecessor, John Magufuli. Her re-election places her as one of Africa’s few female leaders.
