The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has affirmed Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as its candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general election, setting the stage for a high-profile contest against former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senator Natasha, the incumbent senator representing Kogi Central, emerged through a district-wide affirmation exercise conducted across all 57 wards in the district. The exercise concluded with the collation of results at Kahal Cinema in Okene, where party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and electoral observers gathered for the official announcement. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and journalists monitored the process across the district.
Speaking after her emergence, Senator Natasha described the affirmation as a reflection of the confidence the people of Kogi Central have in her leadership and vision.
“I am deeply humbled by the massive turnout across all 57 wards. This is not just about one individual; it is about our people coming together in unity to deepen democracy and build a stronger and more prosperous Kogi Central,” she said.
The senator also pledged to continue prioritising development-focused representation across the district.
“I accept this responsibility with gratitude and renewed commitment. With the continued support of our people, we will remain focused on delivering sustainable development, justice and opportunities for everyone,” she added.
Her emergence comes days after Yahaya Bello secured victory in the APC senatorial primary for the district, setting up what is expected to become one of the most closely watched senatorial contests in the country ahead of the 2027 elections.
Senator Natasha Uduaghan is a Nigerian politician, lawyer, and social entrepreneur representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly. A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), she made history as the first elected female senator from Kogi State.
She has also prioritised digital inclusion and community development in her constituency. Through her foundation, she launched the Kogi Central Open Space Internet Project, which provides 24-hour free public Wi-Fi access across several Local Government Areas in Kogi Central, with each coverage zone spanning approximately one kilometre.
