The Nigerian First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, empowered 250 elderly citizens aged 65 and above in Ekiti State. Each beneficiary received a financial support of N200,000 as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS).

This empowerment programme, titled “Finding Joy in Old Age,” is designed to provide financial and healthcare support to Nigerian elderly citizens, targeting a total of 9,500 individuals aged 65 and above, including veterans of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA).

With a total national disbursement of ₦1.9 billion targeting 9,500 senior citizens, Ekiti, Oyo, Nasarawa, Katsina, Anambra, Rivers, Ondo, Lagos, Ebonyi, Delta, Borno, and Kogi have reportedly received their disbursement.

Describing the scheme as the federal government’s commitment to the welfare and dignity of senior citizens, Senator Oluremi said, “They have walked difficult paths so that the younger generations may have smoother roads to travel. It is therefore our moral duty to ensure that they live their twilight years in comfort, good health and dignity.”

She also advised the elderly Nigerians to stay healthy and active and to continue contributing to society through community and charitable engagements.
