A growing outcry has emerged from students and concerned individuals at Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), following serious reports of persistent sexual harassment against a final-year medical student, Ikeh Ifeanyichukwu Michael.
According to sources, the perpetrator has been called out for sexually harassing several women on campus, including at least five of his classmates, junior students, and even a senior who has since graduated. His actions, which reportedly began as far back as 2023, involve stalking these women using multiple anonymous social media accounts under the guise of being an “obsessed lover.”
It was reported that Ikeh Ifeanyichukwu’s behaviour includes sending unsolicited nude photographs and videos of himself masturbating, sharing voice notes of him moaning their names while masturbating, and posting their photos online with sexually explicit captions without their consent or knowledge. Some victims only discovered the perpetrator’s identity after conducting their own investigations.
Despite previous reports to the university authorities, little action appears to have been taken. The student was reportedly diagnosed with a mental health condition and admitted to a psychiatric ward for three weeks before being allowed to return and sit for exams. There are reports that the university is fond of sweeping sexual assault cases under the carpet with no thorough consequences for perpetrators.
There are also growing concerns that allowing the perpetrator to continue his studies and potentially specialise in obstetrics and gynaecology sends a dangerous message about the safety of women.
There is now a renewed call for the appropriate authorities and management to take decisive and transparent action in investigating and addressing this case.
A link containing documented evidence related to the reports has been circulated to the public, pressing for accountability.
ABUAD has yet to release an official statement in response to these claims.
