Summary

A viral tweet by Nneka, a Korean translator and feminist, has sparked widespread discussion on X (formerly Twitter) about the joys of singlehood.

On February 24, 2025, Nneka, a Korean translator and feminist, tweeted,“The other day, my flatmate and I got home around 8 and decided we were too tired to eat, so we showered, drank juice, and slept. Nobody beat us, nobody nagged us. Spinsterhood is sweet plis.”

The tweet quickly went viral, amassing over 4.1K likes, 473K retweets, and 124K views, sparking widespread discussion on the joys of singlehood. Many women chimed in, sharing their own experiences of autonomy and freedom.

“Oversweet sef. I can wake up and eat anything or anytime I want,” @SexEdWithSugar commented, explaining her joy of freewill.

Another user, @dvine_ibi, shared her routine,“The way I can do relate to this I and my sister? We are too tired to do jack? I just bought food as I was coming home so we can eat or other days we buy bread. There’s tea, nobody is hounding us, life is good.”

Similarly, @CynthiaOjukwu9 described her carefree mornings, “I wake up most mornings and decide not to do anything—no cooking, no chores. I just send someone to get food, eat, press my phone, and sleep.”

A common theme among the responses was the freedom to decide when—or whether—to cook, clean, or even get out of bed.

One user @homodasolar summed it up perfectly,“Maybe this is why they made spinsterhood seem scary; they always knew it was sweet.”

As conversations around marriage and singlehood evolve, more women are openly embracing and celebrating the autonomy that comes with being single.
