Access to sanitary pads remains a challenge for many girls, with period poverty affecting their dignity, confidence, and participation in education. At the same time, sexual assault and technology-facilitated sexual violence pose serious risks to children’s safety, both offline and online.

To address these challenges, Bliss For The Needy Foundation (BFN) will implement the Menstrual Health and Assault Awareness Programme (MHAAP) at Junior Secondary School, Piwoyi, Abuja, on November 27, 2026.

Under the programme, the organisations will advance The Safety Shield Initiative, a campaign focused on reducing period poverty, promoting menstrual health education, and raising awareness of sexual assault and technology-facilitated sexual violence among students.

A key component of MHAAP is establishing a regulated pad box bank within the school to provide free sanitary pads to all girls. This initiative aims to ensure that girls can access essential menstrual products when needed, helping them manage their periods with dignity and reducing barriers to school attendance and participation.

The programme will also educate students on menstrual health management, online safety, personal boundaries, recognising abuse, and reporting channels. By engaging young people, the initiative seeks to encourage respectful behaviour and foster safer, more supportive school environments.

Beyond the school intervention, BFN is preparing a fundraising campaign and has secured approval to host activities at Next Cash and Carry. The organisation is calling on individuals, corporate organisations, development partners, and the public to support the initiative through donations and partnerships. They also seek to engage relevant government institutions, including the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, the Federal Ministry of Health, and the National Human Rights Commission, to advocate for sustainable menstrual health support in public schools.

The campaign aims to raise funds to support the project. Donate through this link.
