Three-time Emmy winner Uzoamaka Nwanneka “Uzo” Aduba has earned a 2025 Emmy nomination for Best Comedy Actress for her role in The Residence, despite the Netflix murder mystery being cancelled after just one season.
In The Residence, Uzo played the eccentric detective Cordelia Cupp, enlisted to unravel the murder of White House chief usher A.B. Wynter during a state dinner. Cordelia was described as “the greatest detective in the world.”
The series, from Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland and Scandal’s Paul William Davies, was originally intended to evolve into an anthology, with Detective Cupp solving a new case each season. Although it concluded after just one season, Uzo’s standout performance left a lasting impression.
Reacting to the nomination on Instagram, Uzo expressed her excitement, noting that every role she takes becomes a part of her, and Cordelia Cupp was no different.
“My amazing ‘The Residence’ family, I really don’t know where I would be without your support. To have worked with such a remarkable group has been a true joy. I love you guys, and thank you,” she wrote.
Uzo Aduba’s nomination adds to a stellar award history that includes Emmys for her acclaimed role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren on Orange Is the New Black in both the comedy and drama categories, as well as a 2020 Emmy win for Mrs. America.
The Emmy Awards, presented annually by the Television Academy, recognise excellence in television programming across the United States.
