Nigerian hurdler queen and world record holder, Tobi Amusan, has once again reinforced her status as the nation’s finest sprint hurdler as she emerged victorious in the just-concluded National Championship in Yabatech.
The event, which was held on Sunday, August 3, 2025, witnessed Tobi outrun her opponents with a time of 12.57s. This victory secured her the 5th national title in a row (2021-2025).
Notably, Tobi won the Olympic trials in Lagos in 2021 and thrice in Benin in the last three years. Her 5th national title made her one of the legendary female athletes who dominated the sports world.
These legendary sportswomen include: Felicia Nkiru Ojiego (1993-1997), Mary Onyali (1991-1996), Vivian Chukwuemeka (1999-2005), Sorochukwu Ihuefo (dominated for nine years, from 1988), and Funke Adeoyo (dominated for nearly a decade, from the 2000s).
Tobi Amusan is preparing for the forthcoming World Athletics Championship, which will take place in Tokyo, Japan, in September.
