Summary

UNIZIK law student Ajana Chioma Isabella has died after reportedly being denied access to her insulin for three days by Elmada Hostel management. The tragic incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice over negligence.

Ajana Chioma Isabella, a law student at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), has died in a tragic incident that has sparked outrage across campus and beyond. The student, who had chronic diabetes and relied on insulin, reportedly passed away after being denied access to her medication by the management of her private hostel, Elmada Hostel.

According to reports, Isabella lost the key to her room in Block A, where she had kept her insulin. When she approached the hostel management to request access to the spare key, she was reportedly asked to pay a high fee in line with a hostel policy on lost keys. Despite her medical condition, her pleas were dismissed, and she was labelled “careless.”

Isabella was denied access to the room for three days, even as her condition worsened. On the third day, she collapsed and was rushed to the UNIZIK Medical Centre, where she reportedly slipped into hypoglycemic shock. She died on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.

The incident has ignited calls for justice, with many accusing the hostel management of gross negligence and insensitivity to Isabella’s life-threatening health condition.

@OfficialSwazzy commented on X: We need justice for her, this matter needs to be looked into

@__chinwe says: I hope her parents sue the school and that hostel, what kind of nonchalant death is this?

As of the time of this report, the university has yet to release an official statement on the matter.
