The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority will restore ValueJet's Captain Oluranti Ogoyi's licenses following a one-month ban and mandatory professional re-appraisal. The Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo revealed this during his update about Ibom’s Air passengers' punishment being reversed.
Acting on behalf of the Federal Government, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, has revealed new resolutions regarding Valuejet’s flight captain, Oluranti Ogoyi.
Recall that Captain Oluranti Ogoyi’s license was suspended following an incident involving Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (KWAM 1) on a ValueJet flight. The Fuji star Wasiu attempted to stop the plane from taking off by standing before it. Video coverage shows the pilot moving the plane when Wasiu refused to leave after being reasoned with verbally.
In a press statement on August 13, 2025, Minister Keyamo stated that after consulting with stakeholders and reviewing the incidents, decisions were made to readdress the culpability of all involved. As such, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, whose license was suspended, will be restored after a one-month ban. The aviation minister confirmed that the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has been directed to restore Oluranti’s license after undergoing some mandatory professional re-appraisal.
Minister Keyamo shared that these actions are intended to convey that the government takes safety and security in the aviation sector very seriously and has decided to draw a line after these clemencies.
“We think all sides have learned valuable lessons from these incidents, and airport security protocol, especially, has been well highlighted for the travelling public. The episodes have undoubtedly helped raise public awareness about appropriate conduct within the aviation space,” the aviation minister said.
