Zenith Bank CEO, Adaora Umeoji, Falsely Described as Unmarried to Make Sexist Claims

Claim: An X user claimed Dr Adaora Umeoji, CEO of Zenith Bank, is “still unmarried,” does not want a man, and would only accept one “richer than her,” using this to make the sexist claim that successful women are “brutal” and fail to “uplift” men the way men supposedly uplift women.

Verdict: False. Dr Adaora is married to Dr Emmanuel Nwokoye, a medical doctor and entrepreneur, and the couple have children. This has been publicly documented since before her 2024 appointment as CEO. The claimant utilised the misinformation to cast sexist aspersions against the Zenith Bank CEO and women in general.

On Sept. 16, 2026, an X user, Indiscov (@Iamindiscov), posted: 

“Dr Adaora Umeoji, the new Zenith Bank CEO, is rich and highly connected, but she is still unmarried. In her mind, she does not want a man, and if she must need a man, he must be richer than her. This is how brutal women are; they don’t uplift when they make it in life, but men do… Men are builders; women are not.”

The post, archived here, drew heavy engagement, with 677 comments, 405 reposts, 1,600 likes, and 178,000 views.

Several replies escalated the original claim into broader generalisations about women. Treasure Moses Oseghe (@legalrealtorr) wrote: 

“This is why women’s empowerment is a waste of time… instead empower men and men empower generations in return,” Indiscov replied in agreement: 

“Men build, protect and create opportunities… how many women would want to do that even when they’re in power to do such?” 

Charles Biggs Smith (@Kazzymilibili) went further, writing, “That’s why women are not meant to be in leadership, especially in office where money works,” to which Indiscov responded: “When women are in power… they always bring in classism!”

Other replies corrected the claim. Chidi Ebere (@okaibedi) wrote: “She’s married. Her husband is a cool guy too. Sharap!!!”

Sams (@AOluwafemi70700) asked: “How do you know she doesn’t have a man in her life?” Indiscov did not retract or correct the original claim in response to either reply. To Sams’ comment, he responded with: “Do your findings!”

Given the post’s reach and its use of a real, named public figure to advance a broader misogynistic narrative, Naija Feminists Media decided to verify the claim.

We cross-referenced Dr Adaora’s marital status against multiple independent sources, including her Wikipedia entry, Nigerian outlets Today Africa, NBG Africa, DNB Stories Africa, and a 2024 PM News report published when she became CEO. All sources confirm she is married to Dr Emmanuel Nwokoye, a medical doctor and businessman from Achalla, Awka North, Anambra State, and that the couple have children together.

The PM News report additionally documents that Dr Adaora faced a nearly identical wave of misogynistic claims when her appointment was first announced in March 2024, including unfounded speculation that she “slept her way to the top,” despite being married with children throughout her career. 

This indicates the September 2026 claim is a recycled version of an established pattern targeting her, rather than a new or original claim.

We found no evidence in Dr Adaora’s public biography, Zenith Bank’s official personnel profile, or any independent reporting to support the claim that she is unmarried or that she has expressed the sentiments attributed to her in the post.

Conclusion

Dr Adaora Umeoji is not unmarried. She has been married to Dr Emmanuel Nwokoye for years, and the couple have children together, a fact confirmed by multiple independent sources and even acknowledged by other users replying under the original claim.
