Summary

Oghenetejiri Kosini has been arrested for sexually molesting a 2-year-old child in Delta state.

An 18-year-old boy, Oghenetejiri Kosini, has been arrested for sexually molesting his landlady’s 2-year-old daughter in Delta State. The incident reportedly occurred on December 12, 2024 in Okpe Local Government Area.

According to sources, the mother of the child, who is also the landlady of the compound, was busy outside when the suspect reportedly entered the house and committed the act. The child’s mother later discovered her baby bleeding profusely and immediately reported the incident to the Orerokpe Police Division, leading to Oghenetejiri’s arrest.

The Delta State Police Command confirmed the arrest, however, human rights activist Israel Joe reported that the suspect was released on Christmas Eve without charges. In a Facebook post on January 6, he accused the police of a cover-up and improper handling of the case.

Mr Joe claimed that the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) refused to issue the survivor’s mother a form for medical examination at a general hospital. He also reported that the IPO sought to mediate a settlement rather than pursue justice.

“Dear DPO Orerokpe, this 2-year-old child was allegedly brutally defiled by 18-year-old Oghenetejiri Kosini. The IPO refused to conduct proper investigations or provide a medical examination form, and the suspect was released on December 24, 2024. ” the post read

“The suspect reportedly admitted to the crime in his statement,” Joe further said. “Yet, the police relied solely on this confession without conducting further investigations or ensuring legal protocols were followed. I urge the police to re-arrest the suspect and transfer the case to the Delta State Command CIID for thorough investigation and prosecution.”

Israel Joe warned that failure to act would lead to public protests and further scrutiny of the police’s handling of the case.

Following public outcry and the intervention of human rights activists, the perpetrator has been rearrested for further investigation.
