A Facebook user, QueenLemmy Williams, publicly defended Nollywood actress Bimbo Ademoye after a male social media user, Ayo Ayorinde, posted a misogynistic comment under a post celebrating the actress. In his post, he wrote:
āThey have passed their prime time, they are emotionally and physically exhausted,ā while referring to the actress as a āleftover.ā
The remark prompted QueenLemmy to respond with a strongly worded defence. In her post, she criticised what she called a pattern of men targeting successful women online with negative and disrespectful comments.
āYou know, sometimes when people say āwomen are the enemies of fellow women,ā I honestly laugh,ā she wrote. āThe most hateful comments Iāve seen towards women online donāt come from other women; they come from men like you, Mr Ayo.ā
She continued, defending the actress’s achievements and character: āBimbo Ademoye is the kind of woman who oozes class, beauty, grace, and talent. You are online disrespecting her while she continues to shine and achieve.ā
QueenLemmy also addressed the broader issue of online misogyny: āMen like you are the reason I stopped believing that women are the problem, because clearly, itās some of you men who hate to see powerful women win.ā
The post quickly gained attention, drawing reactions from other users about the misogyny, digital harassment and the broader treatment of women in public life. Bimbo Ademoye, known for her versatility and strong presence in Nollywood, continues to enjoy commercial success and a growing fan base with her latest movie, Where Love Lives, currently showing on YouTube.
