A Facebook user, QueenLemmy Williams, publicly defended Nollywood actress Bimbo Ademoye after a male social media user, Ayo Ayorinde, posted a misogynistic comment under a post celebrating the actress. In his post, he wrote: 

“They have passed their prime time, they are emotionally and physically exhausted,” while referring to the actress as a ‘leftover.’

The remark prompted QueenLemmy to respond with a strongly worded defence. In her post, she criticised what she called a pattern of men targeting successful women online with negative and disrespectful comments.

“You know, sometimes when people say ‘women are the enemies of fellow women,’ I honestly laugh,” she wrote. “The most hateful comments I’ve seen towards women online don’t come from other women; they come from men like you, Mr Ayo.”

She continued, defending the actress’s achievements and character: “Bimbo Ademoye is the kind of woman who oozes class, beauty, grace, and talent. You are online disrespecting her while she continues to shine and achieve.”

QueenLemmy also addressed the broader issue of online misogyny: “Men like you are the reason I stopped believing that women are the problem, because clearly, it’s some of you men who hate to see powerful women win.”
